Comments about Full Tilt Boots First Chair:

Bought a pair of First Chairs at the end of last season after much deliberation. The boots are as advertised...comfortable (for ski boots), easy to put on and off, light weight, and well constructed. I have narrow feet and skinny ankles , and have struggled to find a boot I could tolerate for full days on the slopes. This is my third pair of boots in the last 4 years, but I can say I won't be buying another pair any time soon. My only complaint (reason for 4 stars instead of 5) is that they were only available with the #10 flex tongue. So it cost another 50 bucks to get a lighter tongue. It'd be nice if they could be ordered with whatever flex you wanted. However, other than that they're great and I highly recommend them. I even ditched my Scarpa's for these on a weekend tour in the Adirondaks and had no regrets.

Comments about Full Tilt Boots First Chair:

FullTilt is a great boot design. I skied on the original Flexon Comps and giving them up was a mistake so I am very happy to be back into a modified Flexon design.
To get a good fitting boot you really have to try on multiple models of boots, even if you stay to a single brand like FullTilt. Different shells with different liners and lasts will fit differently. I had to try several models to find the best fit and ended up with the First Chair. They are a 99 mm last, but have an expanded toe box and the Intuition Pro liners.
I wanted to make sure I had a snug fit, so I left about 1 finger of space between my foot and the shell with no liner. At the suggestion of the boot fitter I skied without cooking the liners, huge mistake, skied only a few runs and my feet were killing me. Don't do that, heat fit the liners first.
The pre-heat fit was really tight, couldn't even buckle the top buckles with the cable keeper on, so heat fitting I really wanted to push the liners a bit, so I wore two pair of light socks and toe caps. The most painful 15 minutes ever on my feet, but now my boots fit perfectly and the cable fits no problem. Comfortably firm with no tight spots.
After skiing these for the end of last season and all of 13/14 a 1 finger fit was the way to go.
So why are these boots so great? Super comfortable all day and warm. They are super light-weight, size mondo 28 and they are 4.8 lbs/pair (yes, you read that right per pair). Compare that to any boot on the market these things are just great for scrambling up those ½ hour boot packs. Light=easier hiking and less work on the legs. Great lateral stiffness with no forward/reverse binding or shell deformation. Great boot-to-ski feel. Easy to get into /out of. Replaceable boot sole traction pieces. If you don't like the flex, the tongues can be switched out to vary the stiffness. I am a big guy, 6-2 220 so the 10 flex is not a problem, I may pick up some 8's just for grins. If you try this boot and like everything but think it's too stiff just switch out the tongue.
I like everything about these boots. If your foot fits, then you will love these boots.

Comments about Full Tilt Boots First Chair:

Spend all day in these boots when teaching. Great comfort, no shin bang, great replacement for my old Flexion Comps -- except for the buckles which are hard to adjust on the slopes with gloves on. Also , the lower loop cable needs to be adjusted to its loosest setting to get the cable out of the notch side when removing the boots, which can be tough if the micro adjust is iced up.

this boot is marketed as the stiffest in the line, but is less stiff than my previous year's Seth, which is supposed to have an 8 tongue. The semi transparent lower plastic on this years model deforms and isn't as stiff.

Comments about Full Tilt Boots First Chair:

I was under the impression that my feet were wide because they are long (13.5 street shoe). Got sized by a few different stores and was told that I was mistaken, that my feet are average width. FT boots were recommended by a few shops.

These boots are super comfortable like advertised, but do not give anything up in performance. I was worried they would not provide a secure heel hold compared to my dalbello's with the instep buckle. If anything, they are more secure and responsive. They also got more comfortable the longer I wore them.

I don't even unbuckle them when I go into the lodge. I wear them as snug as I can buckle them too. They are more comfortable than my snowboard boots used to be.

Im a big strong guy, and the flex on these is just right for me. I would rate it around a 110-120.

Comments about Full Tilt Boots First Chair:

So, these are great for me. I am Joe average in the foot size department. Warm, comfortable, awesome performance, easy on and off, light weight, what is not to like? The 10 tongue provides such a supple smooth, supportive, resilient, non shin banging forward flex, I ponder what a 12 flex tongue might be like. I am 60 YO, 165lbs, skied 50 days a year for 40 years now, FYI.
The real story is, I have a friend who has 15AAA feet.(!!) I have seen him go through at least 20 sets of boots over the years, some leaving him literally crying in pain. He got a pair of First Chairs a week ago. This is the first boot he EVER got that fit him right out of the box with no mods at all. For that reason I suspect he loves his FT's more than I love mine.
I would say for me ,the 28.5 size feels a 1/4 size too big. A 3mm thick foam insert under the liner filled in the slack room in the boot and eliminated some foot swimming in the boot I experienced.
